American Tower Corporation (ATC) Modular Data Center

Project Overview

HPM was selected to support American Tower Corporation (ATC) in the delivery of its inaugural Aggregation Edge Data Center program in Raleigh, N.C. This is a 5,200 square foot facility for high-speed data consolidation. One major challenge the HPM project team overcame was maintaining continuity of work during severe weather conditions. The project was executed under the impacts of Hurricane Helene, during which the City of Raleigh exceeded its average annual rainfall within a six-week period. These conditions necessitated significant schedule coordination and enhanced site-protection measures to maintain progress.

The project required over 1,000 cubic yards of structural concrete, 14,000 linear feet of conduit, and about 10 miles of electric cabling. HPM handled full-site development and infrastructure installation, including mass grading and earthwork, underground site utilities, fiber and Medium Voltage/Low Voltage power duct banks, foundations for data, power, and catcher modules, and concrete pads for auxiliary electrical gear and standby generators. HPM received and set 11 prefabricated modules and two generators (2063 kVA) with a 660-ton crane. After installation, HPM led commissioning and AHJ inspections for NEC/NFPA compliance. Final work included paving, fencing, landscaping and turnover documentation – marking substantial completion and operational readiness.
